Opening the Drawer for the Day

Before processing any transactions, the cash drawer must be opened for the day. This involves counting and recording the starting cash amount so TORO can accurately track cash flow throughout the shift.

How to Open the Drawer

  1. 1 Log in to the POS with your employee PIN
  2. 2 TORO prompts you to open the drawer if it is not yet open for the day
  3. 3 Count the cash in the drawer using the denomination fields provided
  4. 4 Enter the count for each denomination: pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, ones, fives, tens, twenties, fifties, and hundreds
  5. 5 TORO calculates the total starting cash automatically
  6. 6 Confirm the amount and submit to open the drawer

Denomination Fields

The drawer opening screen displays fields for each denomination of U.S. currency. Enter the number of bills or coins for each denomination, and TORO multiplies by the face value to compute the total. This ensures an accurate starting balance is recorded.

Key Points

  • The drawer must be opened before any sales can be processed
  • The starting amount becomes the baseline for end-of-day reconciliation
  • The opening employee is recorded in the system
  • If drawer prompts are disabled, you can skip this step (see Disable Drawer Prompts)
  • An accurate starting count is essential for a clean close at the end of the day
