Cash Rounding: Now Optional

With the U.S. Treasury ending penny production in late 2025, cash rounding is more relevant than ever. TORO has supported automatic nickel rounding for a while now — but some stores just don't want it. Now there's an "Off" option right in the Rounding Setup. Select it and cash transactions go through with exact change — no rounding, no virtual gift cards, no prompts. Simple mode and Advanced mode are still there if you want them.

How to activate: DASHBOARD → SETUP → TRANSACTIONS → ROUNDING SETUP → select "Off"

Cash Drawer: External Drawer Support

If your store uses a cash drawer that isn't managed by TORO — maybe it's tied to another system or you handle it manually — you used to get a "drawer not closed from previous day" warning every morning. That's fixed. When TORO's cash drawer management is turned off, it no longer checks for leftover open drawers from yesterday. No more false alarms.

To turn off TORO drawer management, uncheck "Manage Cash Drawer" in your cash drawer setup. TORO will still process sales normally — it just won't try to track drawer open/close states or prompt you about them.

Retailer Map & Store Profiles

TORO now features a live retailer map on the website showing every active TORO store. After login, admins are invited to opt their store into the map. Once opted in, you can submit a review — including a star rating, your favorite feature, and honest feedback about what could be better.

Approved reviews appear as gold-star pins on the map. Click one and you'll see the store's quote right in the popup. Below the map, a full retailer table shows store name, location, website link, and which POS they switched from. It's real social proof from real stores — not marketing copy.

The whole flow happens through a polished sequence of post-login prompts: website consent first, then previous POS (if we don't know it yet), then the review. The review prompt only shows up after you've agreed to be featured — so you're never asked for a review before you've said yes to being on the map. You can snooze the review prompt for 5 days if it's not a good time.

Employee Settings System

Employee settings like pay rate, discount limits, comp limits, and more have moved out of the Account Information screen and into a dedicated Employee Settings system. Settings now follow a 3-tier hierarchy: Global Defaults, Access Level Defaults (by role), and Individual Overrides.

Admins can manage defaults for every access level from a single matrix view. When a new employee is added, they automatically inherit the right settings for their role. Individual overrides are preserved when defaults change.

Transaction Viewer Access Control

A new "Transaction Viewer Max Days Back" setting limits how far into history each role can see. Admins get unlimited access, Managers default to 30 days, and other roles default to 1 day. Fully customizable per access level or per individual employee.

Product Type Packaging Defaults

Each Product Type can now define its own default packaging types for Master SKU and Transaction SKU. When you create a new item, the packaging types automatically match the Product Type — pipe tobacco defaults to "Tin" and "Ounce," cigars default to "Box" and "Single," or whatever you configure. Change an item's Product Type and TORO offers to update the packaging types to match.

CSV Import: Packaging Types

The CSV Item Importer now supports Master Sku Packaging Type and Transaction Sku Packaging Type columns. If you import a packaging type that doesn't exist in the system, TORO creates it automatically. No more fixing packaging types one-by-one after an import.

Modern Input Dialogs

Number inputs, Yes/No prompts, and dropdown selections throughout TORO have been upgraded to modern styled dialogs with rounded corners, teal headers, and dark mode support. When a default value is shown, typing immediately replaces it — no more having to clear the field first.

Transaction Rounding: Charity Fix

When transaction rounding sends the round-up amount to a charity account via virtual gift card, the transaction now correctly keeps the original customer. Previously, the charity account could replace the customer on the receipt.

Faster Account Loading

Loading a customer account now happens entirely in the background with an animated progress indicator. Purchase history, rewards, coupons, SMS status, punchcards, and on-hold items all load simultaneously instead of one-at-a-time. The result: the Account Finder stays responsive while everything loads, and accounts appear noticeably faster — especially for customers with long purchase histories.

• Pricing & Tax: After adjusting special taxes or rounding, TORO now prompts to apply pricing updates to impacted products.
• Brand Selection: Fixed an issue where declining to use a suggested brand wouldn't open the brand selector.

• Table Fix: Fixed a potential crash when right-clicking certain tables.

• Master SKU Auto-Fix: TORO now automatically detects and repairs items that lost their master SKU designation on startup.
• SMS Detection: Improved accuracy when identifying which phone numbers can receive text messages.
• Sync Tool Window: Fixed the Online Store Sync Tool occasionally opening offscreen.
• Context Menus: Table row selection now stays highlighted while a right-click menu is open.
• Log Cleanup: Old log files are automatically cleaned up during the v810 update.
• Query Performance: Optimized several customer account queries for faster database response times.

Improvements

• CSV item import: Text values in barcode columns (like "VINTAGE 2024" or product codes) are now saved as search terms instead of being discarded, making imported items easier to find
• Bulk Pipe Tobacco wizard: Product type dropdown now shows all active product types instead of only those tagged as Pipe Tobacco, giving more flexibility for stores with different tax setups

Bug Fixes

• CSV item import: Fixed issue where items with the same items-per-sku value in both master and transaction columns would create two master SKUs. Now correctly creates only one master SKU with transaction barcode merged when values match.
• Account Finder: Fixed issue where typing a phone number that starts with an existing customer's last four digits would lock up the search field, preventing you from finishing the number

Under the Hood (Internal)

• Server-side invoice generation: System Manager can now build missing monthly invoices for stores that haven't generated their own
• Usage data (remove background, spell check, WooCommerce orders/syncs, SMS subscriber counts) now reports to the global database for centralized billing
• Free call thresholds reduced: Remove Background and Spell Check both now have 10 free calls per month (was 20 and 75)

Automatic Dark Mode

Dark mode is here — and it's automatic. TORO switches between light and dark themes based on your local sunset time. No timers to set, no buttons to press. When the sun goes down, TORO goes dark. When dawn breaks, it switches back to light.

Prefer to control it yourself? You can lock it to Light or Dark mode, or set a specific time for the switch. Head to DASHBOARD → THEME SETTINGS to choose your preference.

Buttons, radio buttons, labels, and dialogs throughout the app all respond to the theme automatically.

We have a new Dashboard Layout. This will be very new, but we believe over time once you adjust it will make more sense to you. All of the exact functionality still exists, it has just been grouped under buttons instead of boxes. View the old layout below and look at the section header to figure out which button you need to click to see the same functionality. • New window for quickly updating the strength of a cigar. This allows us to provide better results for the Analytic Selling Assistant. This is a VITAL feature you should be using if you aren't. One of the best ways to focus on inventory that is not moving in a simple manner. Schedule a support call if you want to add this to your store.

• We are seeing lots of chargebacks and fraudulent charges with the Online Stores. Highly recommended to VIEW RISK and follow the necessary procedures. If you get a chargeback, then please notify us so we can block that IP Address. This is a new feature. Simply asking for an email to be sent with a picture of their ID stops 99% of these chargebacks.
• Ability to add a Wholesale Payment directly from the Wholesale Invoice.
• Print Profiles have been created. This will help you more quickly print labels from the Purchase Order.

Awesome Update!

We have been being blocked from sending SMS messages about your store status. Part of this is due to the fact that we are tobacco and part is due to the cell phone companies trying to block SPAM.

Update SMS Workflow Registration. SMS Registrations are VERY CLOSE to being available again!

When editing a Wholesale Invoice, you are able to create a duplicate one with the same Wholesale Account and same Items.

When downloading Brands from the Master Database in the "Quick Add New Items" screen, you can now download multiple Brands at the same time.

• Ability to send any messages from an SMS Campaign that did not send successfully the first time.
• If at closing the cash drawer is off, the user can now click ALLOW DIFFERENCE. This is a restricted access feature and not recommended to give to employees you don't want to have this ability. To give access, go to the Drawer Close screen and go to the HELP menu and select SETUP ACCESSES FOR WINDOW.
• If a new tab is started for an Account that already has a tab, then the Employee is prompted to add these items to the existing tab.
• New button on a transaction to view the Account being used for the purchase. Or if you forget to set an Account, then you can do that there also.
• When exporting Inventory History, you can now exclude adjustments for items that inventory is not tracked.

• Wholesale Module — Wholesale Price Sheets of all inventory can now be built.
• Many backend system updates not transparent to users.

If you aren't passing your credit card fees onto your customers, then we highly suggest. About 1/3 of TORO customers are doing this. This means no more credit card fees for you. We have all had little to no pushback and saving well over $1000 a month on average.

Updates:

• Credit Card Fees to Customers — Ability to accept multiple payments and fees on a transaction. If you have credit card fees being passed on to your customers, then this will allow multiple payments each with their own fees to be added to a transaction.
• Rewards Program — Can now set an expiration date for Rewards Points. Default is that there is no expiration.
• Customer Report — When viewing top customers, can also see their Rewards Points level.
• Payroll Module — Can now mark employees as not eligible for Payroll. They can still clock in and out, but won't show up when cutting checks.
• Payroll Module — Employees marked as SALARY that did NOT clock in are now asked if they should be added to the Payroll Period.

• New ability to randomly select a customer based off a Punchcard. This makes raffles so much better!
• TORO Update Settings Locked Out. Prevents adjustment which can cause issues with updating TORO.
• Automatic Birthday SMS Campaigns now send out each morning. You can also send out Automatic Anniversary Reminders, Automatic Significant Other Birthday Reminders, Automatic Mothers Day & Fathers Day SMS Campaigns.

• TORO Update Settings Locked Out. Prevents adjustment which can cause issues with updating TORO.

In TORO v3.00.755.381, TORO introduced 4 new privileges for you to prevent different actions of your staff while completing a transaction. It was difficult/confusing to stores, so we did a quick update and made a new window for turning these on to save you time.

In this version, while on your main screen, go to the 'HELP' menu and select 'ADJUST ACCESSES FOR WINDOW'. In here you can see all the access functions for the Main Screen. You can double click on these cells and change them from RED to GREEN. This will allow access for each level that you want to have access.

Here are the 4 new access levels that were loaded with the previous update:

• REMOVE ITEM — Don't allow specific employees to remove an item once loaded to a transaction.
• INCREASE ITEM — Prevent usage of the INCREASE function. This forces them to scan each barcode and tighten up inventory issues.
• DECREASE ITEM — Prevent usage of the DECREASE function.
• DISCOUNT ITEM — Prevent usage of the DISCOUNT function. Automatic discounts attached to accounts will still apply.

• You can now pass your credit card fees onto your customer. This is a great way to recoup costs. This new version only applies the fee on the payment being made. So if it is a $100 transaction and $55 cash and $45 credit, then the fee will only be applied to the $45.

• SMS Campaign Editor will now show you the length of time expected to send out a campaign as SMS vs MMS.
• Due to new constraint from SMS Provider, MMS option is only available on campaigns, not direct messages.
• Canceling on a Tab gives extra notice to the User.
• Ability to create 13 digit printable barcodes for all items.
• Online order without a phone number will still create an account for the customer using a dummy phone number that starts with your store area code.
• When viewing an Item, the Brand is much more visible due to color change.

• Receipts get another update! Now you can setup how you want your receipt to look that is for the Store for a signature separately from how you want it to look for a Guest. To do this, go to DASHBOARD → SETUP SYSTEM → SETUP RECEIPTS.

  • Also an update to make the Account Receipt Preferences stand out a bit. Once you set a customers preferences, you will no longer need to ask what they want. They will be loaded for future transactions. They can always be modified on future transactions by just changing the option. Next time you do a transaction, whatever they chose last time will be the default. There is also a gear icon for settings for setting up the profile.
• Automatic Product Type Box Discounts are now included into the Online Store pricing automatically. Not marked as ON SALE, just the listed online price.
• Cleaner interface for Online Store pricing. You can now select the Item Sku you are wanting to update from the table.
• Update to interface for uploading images to E-Comm site help show the sorting in a more user friendly manner.
