Closing the Drawer

At the end of the business day, the cash drawer must be closed and reconciled. This process compares the actual cash in the drawer against what TORO expects based on the day's transactions.

How to Close the Drawer

  1. 1 Navigate to Close Drawer from the Dashboard or management tools
  2. 2 Enter your PIN (closing typically requires manager or supervisor access)
  3. 3 Count all cash in the drawer by denomination, just like opening
  4. 4 TORO calculates your counted total and compares it to the expected total
  5. 5 Any difference is displayed as an overage or shortage
  6. 6 Confirm and submit to close the drawer for the day

Reconciliation

TORO tracks all cash that should be in the drawer: the opening amount, plus cash sales received, minus cash refunds issued, plus any cash inserted (pay-ins), minus any cash removed (pay-outs). The expected total is compared against your physical count to determine whether the drawer is over, short, or balanced.

Key Points

  • Closing the drawer generates a summary report of the day's activity
  • Overages and shortages are recorded and available in reports
  • The closing employee is recorded in the system
  • A drawer close report can be printed for your records
  • Once closed, the drawer must be opened again the next day before transactions can resume
  • Credit card batch settlement should also be done at end of day
