Label Design Studio
TL;DR
Walk into your humidor and look at the shelf tags. Now think about what they say about your shop. If the answer is "not much," that's what this fixes. The Label Design Studio lets you build branded templates — humidor tags with the cigar's strength and country of origin, shelf talkers with your logo, bold sale stickers that look like you meant them — and print them from any item with one click. It's $9.99 a month, with a free trial running through the end of next month. It's a limited release right now — ask us to switch it on for your shop. Then build a template, print one tag, and put it on your shelf before you decide whether it's worth it.
The labels TORO prints out of the box cover the basics — name, price, a barcode. But every shop has that one thing the standard label can't quite do: a shelf talker with your logo, a humidor tag with the cigar's strength and country, a price sticker laid out exactly the way your customers are used to reading it. The Label Design Studio is for those.
It's a drag-and-drop label designer built right into TORO. You lay out a label visually — text, barcodes, images, wherever you want them — save it as a template, and print it from any item. No design software, no exporting, no fighting with a label vendor's web tool.
Pricing
$9.99 a month, and it starts with a free trial that runs through the end of next month — so you get the rest of the current month plus a full month on the house before the first charge. After the trial, it's $9.99 on your regular monthly invoice. Cancel anytime.
Turning It On
The Label Design Studio is currently a limited release, available by request. Call or email TORO support and we'll enable it for your shop. Until we do, you won't see it on your dashboard — that's expected, not a problem with your system.
Once we've turned it on for you, open the Modules & Integrations tab on the dashboard and find Label Design Studio. The padlock on the tile shows its status at a glance: closed means it's locked, open means it's active.
Click the tile to see the sign-up screen, which shows the trial and the $9.99 price. An admin user starts the trial or turns it on. Once it's active, two buttons appear on the Item Details screen for every product: Label Design Studio (to build and edit templates) and Quick Print Labels (to print an item with a template you've already built).
Designing a Label
Open any item, go to Item Details, and click Label Design Studio. You'll see your list of Label Templates. Click Add New Template, answer "What is the name for this Label Template?" with something you'll recognize later ("Humidor Tag," "Shelf Talker," "Sale Sticker"), and you're on a blank label canvas sized to your label stock.
You build a label by adding elements and dragging them into place:
- Text — type anything, or pull in a field that fills itself from the item (name, price, strength, and so on). Pick the font size so it reads at arm's length.
- Barcode — drop in a scannable barcode of the item's barcode. Scale it to fit your stock.
- Images — add your logo, a "SALE" flag, an origin flag — anything from your image library.
Everything is drag-to-position, so what you see on the canvas is what prints. Turn on the grid and snap to grid at the bottom of the canvas if you want your fields lined up evenly instead of by eye. When the layout looks right, save it.
From the template list you can also Edit, Duplicate (handy for making a "Sale" version of a tag you already like), or Delete a template.
The Image Library
Images you want to reuse — your logo especially — live in the Image Library so you're not hunting for the same file every time. Add an image once and it's available to drop onto any label from then on.
Custom Label Sizes
TORO already knows your standard small and medium label stock. If you print on anything else — a wide shelf talker, a square humidor tag — click Manage Label Sizes from the template list, then Add New Size, and give it a name, a width, and a height in inches.
Lining the size up on your printer
Every roll of label stock sits in the printer a little differently, so a brand-new size needs its start point dialed in. You don't type that in as a number — you print it.
Click ALIGNMENT on the size, and the Label Setup — Align & Test screen opens. It's the same screen you already use for the standard small and medium labels:
- Nudge the start point with the four arrow buttons. Each press moves the label's printing 0.005" — a hair.
- Pick a test item with SET ITEM, and pick which template to test with. If you haven't designed a template for this size yet, TORO prints a simple calibration label instead — a barcode with the current X and Y values printed on it, so you can tell your test prints apart.
- Print a test label, then scan it in the scan box. Green PASS means the barcode reads back correctly. Red FAIL means nudge and try again.
- Save when it prints inside the label edges.
If the template you're testing with has no barcode on it, there's nothing to scan — just look at the label and check the edges.
One tip: always do your alignment print on the actual label printer, not a Print-to-PDF preview. Label stock carries small calibration offsets that a PDF doesn't, and the real printer is where you'll confirm everything lands inside the label edges.
Printing Labels for an Item
With a template saved, printing is the easy part. Open an item, go to Item Details, and click Quick Print Labels.
Pick your template from the list, then choose how many:
- Print 1 — prints immediately, no confirmation.
- Box of N — one label for every stick in a box.
- On Hand: M — one label for everything you currently have in stock.
- Or type any number you like and click Print.
Everything except Print 1 asks you to confirm first, and the window closes once the labels are on their way.
TORO remembers the template you printed with last time and has it selected the next time you open Quick Print, so re-tagging a shelf is one click per item. The label pulls each item's live details into the fields you set up, so the same template prints correctly for every product you use it on.
When This Module Earns Its Keep
- You want your logo on shelf and humidor tags.
- You sell singles out of a humidor and want strength and country on the tag.
- Your regulars are used to a specific price-sticker layout and you don't want to retrain their eyes.
- You run sales and want a bold, branded "SALE" sticker instead of a plain markdown tag.
If your needs are covered by the standard labels, you may never need this — and that's fine. It's here for the shop that wants its labels to look like its labels.
