Barcodes: Adding, Importing, and Printing
Barcodes are the fastest way to add items to transactions. TORO supports manufacturer UPC barcodes as well as custom barcodes you create. You can add barcodes individually, import them in bulk, and print barcode labels for items that do not have them.
Adding a Barcode to an Item
- 1 Find the item in Inventory Management
- 2 Open the item's detail screen
- 3 Navigate to the Barcode field
- 4 Scan the barcode with your scanner, or type the number manually
- 5 Save the item
Importing Barcodes in Bulk
For stores with large inventories, barcodes can be imported via CSV file. The import file should include columns for the item identifier (SKU or name) and the barcode number. TORO matches each barcode to the corresponding item and assigns it automatically.
- Prepare a CSV file with SKU and barcode columns
- Navigate to the import tool in Inventory Management
- Upload the CSV file
- Review the import preview and confirm
Printing Barcode Labels
TORO can generate and print barcode labels for items that do not have manufacturer barcodes. This is common for individual cigars, house-branded products, or items you repackage. You need a compatible label printer configured in your system.
- Select one or more items from Inventory Management
- Tap Print Labels
- Set the number of labels to print per item
- Labels include the item name, barcode, and price
Key Points
- An item can have multiple barcodes assigned (e.g., individual and box barcodes)
- A barcode can only be assigned to one item at a time
- Label printing requires a configured label printer (see Printer Setup)
- Scanning a barcode that is not in the system prompts you to assign it to an item
