QUICK ITEMS: Your Best Sellers, One Tap Away
Every shop has them — the five or six things that go across the counter all day long. A bottle of water, the house cigar, a cutter, a lighter. They're buried in a category somewhere, and your cashier taps three times to get to something they ring up forty times a shift.
QUICK ITEMS puts those on the front page.
Where It Is
Look at the top of your main menu. There's a teal QUICK ITEMS bar stretching across both category columns, pinned above everything else. Tap it and your quick items fill the screen as full-size item buttons — one tap from the cart.
There's a faster way, though, and the button tells you what it is: Press Space Bar for Quick Items. Any time during a transaction, with the search box empty, one tap of the space bar jumps straight there. Your cashier never takes their hand off the keyboard.
You don't have to set any of this up to start using it. TORO seeds every store with its 5 most purchased items from the last year, so the button is useful the first time you open it. From there it's yours to shape.
Adding and Removing Items
Two ways, depending on where you already are.
From the item itself. Open any item and tick the Quick Item box. That's it — it's on the menu.
From the manager. Right-click the QUICK ITEMS button to open the Quick Items manager. Not everyone thinks to try right-clicking, so there's a second way in: once you're looking at the quick items, an Edit Quick Items pill appears beside the QUICK ITEMS heading and opens the same window.
The manager shows your quick items in a grid that looks exactly like the live menu — same images, same text, same borders — so what you're arranging is what your staff will see. Across the bottom: ADD QUICK ITEM opens the item finder to pick a new one, and a yellow reminder about the space-bar shortcut.
Everything you do here applies instantly. There's no save button and no restart — change something and the menu behind you has already changed.
Arranging Them
Drag a tile to move it. First position is top-left, and that order is shared by every station in the store.
Click a tile for its options:
- Remove From Quick Items — takes it off the menu. The item itself isn't touched.
- Set Button Border Color — pick any color for that button's border.
- Clear Button Border Color — back to the standard border. This only appears once you've set one.
- Configure Menu Button — the same button editor you use elsewhere, for the image and text layout.
The border color is the one people underestimate. When five buttons all look alike, your cashier reads every label. Give the water a yellow border and the house cigar a red one and they stop reading and start reaching. It's worth doing for the two or three you ring up most.
Hiding It on a Station
The button doesn't suit every till. The back-office machine you use for receiving and reports probably doesn't need it.
Right-click any category button and choose Reorder / Hide Buttons — the same screen you already use to arrange your categories. At the bottom there's Show QUICK ITEMS button. Untick it for that station.
This one is per station, unlike the item list and the ordering, which are shared. So the counter can have it and the office can't, and neither one steps on the other.
A Note on Who Can Open the Manager
The Quick Item box on Item Details is available to anyone who can edit items. The Quick Items manager — the drag-and-drop window — starts out restricted to admins. If a manager of yours should be able to rearrange the menu, give us a call and we'll open it up for them.
