Adding Your Own Shapes and Colors

The Shape and Color dropdowns on an item used to be a fixed list. If you carried something the list didn't have a word for, you picked the nearest thing and moved on — which is fine until you try to find it again in the Cigar Finder.

Those lists are yours to extend now.

Adding a Value

On Item Details there's a small + button next to the Shape dropdown and another next to Color. Either one opens a manager window — Manage Shapes or Manage Colors — with four buttons: ADD, RENAME, REMOVE and CLOSE.

ADD takes your new value and it's available immediately: in the dropdown you were just looking at, and in the Cigar Finder filters, without a restart.

What You Can and Can't Change

Values that came with TORO are marked System in the list. Those stay put — you can't rename or remove them.

That's on purpose. Every store sharing a common baseline is what makes a Maduro a Maduro across the fleet, and it's what lets support, reporting and the Cigar Finder mean the same thing everywhere. Your own additions sit alongside them with no marking, and those you can rename or remove freely.

Removing One That's in Use

If items still carry the value you're removing, TORO warns you first and tells you what will happen: those items move to Unknown.

Worth thinking about for a second before you confirm. Moving forty items to Unknown is quick to do and tedious to undo — you'd be re-categorising them by hand. If a value is simply misnamed, RENAME is almost always the better button.

A Note on Who Can Open It

The manager screen starts out available to admins only. If your inventory manager should be able to add shapes and colors, give us a call and we'll switch it on for them.

The dropdowns themselves are unaffected — anyone who can edit an item can still pick from the list.
