Hardware Requirements

At TORO, we do not make any profit on hardware. We make it our goal to help you acquire the hardware at the best price possible. Even the actual computer is built specifically for TORO by us and no up charge with a three year warranty. 

 

Here is what you need…

COMPUTER

We supply a computer that comes preloaded with TORO. This computer will have an i7 Processor with 32GB of RAM and a m.2 SSD Harddrive. The cost for the computer is $1300.

 

MONITOR – 1 Per Computer

Requirements:

  • HDMI (the standard on most every new monitor)
  • 1920×1080 resolution. 

Notes:

Touchscreen is not required, but it is a nice feature.

KEYBOARD & MOUSE – 1 Per Computer

Requirements:

  • A full keyboard that has a separate number pad
    • While this isn’t a firm requirement, it is vital to the user experience. Each employee will have a 4 digit pin, and this will make every task that much quicker.
  • Wireless combo package
    • Also not a firm requirement, but going wireless where both the mouse and keyboard use a single USB dongle is preferred. It will keep the POS area free of wires and the computers have a limited amount of USB ports, so this will put them both on one port.

Any keyboard or mouse will work.

USB HUB – 1 Per Computer

Requirements:

  • Highly recommend to use the two listed below. The two listed below are Intel Certified to work with the Intel NUC computer we build.

Notes:

You might not need one of these, I would hold on this purchase and see how many USB cables you have based on what accessories you choose. 

 

In theory, any USB Hub will work, but we have ran into issues here and there where they cause connectivity issues.

BARCODE SCANNER – 1 Per Computer

OPTION 1: Just scanning items

 

Requirements:

    • None

Notes:

    • Recommend getting a scanner that has a stand and presentation mode. This allows you to just wave the item under the scanner. Otherwise, you will need to pick it up and hit the trigger each time.
    • Recommend a USB connection and not wireless. Less issues in the long term.

Option 2: Want to scan IDs and get the birthday from the ID. Also, need to scan items.

Requirements:

    • You must use the Honeywell Genesis MK7580 Area-Imaging Scanner.

Notes:

Once you get this scanner, you will need to print this and scan these two barcodes to get it programmed for Toro.

Where to purchase:

 

MAG STRIPE READER – 1 Per Computer

This is needed if you are doing Gift Cards and want to swipe them to load and use them. They will also have a barcode on them, so this is not necessary.

Requirements:

  • Must use Magtek 21040104 MINI USB SWIPE.

Notes:

This is not a required piece of hardware to use TORO. If you want to use Gift Cards, or start a tab using a credit card, then you will need this.

RECEIPT PRINTER – 1 Per Computer

Requirements:

  • We are certified with ION Thermal Printer.
    • Formally, we certified the Star TSP100 TSP 143U as well.

Notes:

All receipt printers are fairly universal. While we are only certified with the ION, you should be able to use others. If you already have a receipt printer, then let’s try that out first. If you don’t, then please just use the ION.

CASH DRAWER – 1 Per Computer

Option 1: Manually open the drawer

Requirements:

  • None.

Notes:

Use whatever you want. That said, read the features of Option 2

Option 2: TORO will open the drawer.

This cash drawer will automatically open when you do a cash transaction.This will also allow TORO to track how many seconds that the drawer is open. It also will notify you if an employee has opened the cash drawer outside of a transaction. All of these features are there to help you identify if an employee is stealing cash from you.

Requirements:

  • We are only certified with the VB554A-BL1616.

Notes:

Highly recommended.

BARCODE PRINTER – 1 Per Store

Requirements:

  • We are only certified with TSC TE200.

Notes:

This is printer to be able to print barcodes you create within TORO for items that are not barcoded. If you don’t need this functionality, then you don’t need this printer.
