Every cigar shop has that employee who just knows cigars. Ask them “something medium, maybe Nicaraguan, not too pricey” and they’ll walk you to the right box in ten seconds. The TORO Cigar Finder puts that same expertise into software — so every employee on your team can make great recommendations, even if they’re still learning the humidor.
How It Works #
The Cigar Finder is a full-screen search tool with filters down the left side and results filling the rest of the screen. You can narrow down your entire cigar inventory by:
- Length and Ring Gauge — slide to set a size range. Sizes display in the results as a “Vitola” column with traditional fractional formatting (like 5 1/2 x 50).
- Strength — tap pill buttons to select one or more strength levels: Mild, Mild-Medium, Medium, Medium-Full, or Full. Results show strength as a row of filled dots so you can scan the list at a glance.
- Retail Price — set a budget range and only see cigars that fit.
- Country, Wrapper, Binder, Filler — check specific tobacco origins. Great when a customer says “I love Ecuadorian wrappers” or “anything with Dominican filler.”
All filters work together. Set a strength, a price range, and a wrapper type and you’ll see only cigars that match all three. Drag a slider or tap a pill and the results update automatically.
Using It With a Customer #
Here’s where it gets really useful. Click the Set Account button at the bottom and pick a customer. If that customer has cigar purchase history, TORO analyzes their last six months of buying and pre-fills every filter with their preferences — their typical strength range, the sizes they gravitate toward, their usual price point, and the countries and tobaccos they’ve been buying.
The title bar updates to show the customer’s name, and the results immediately narrow to cigars that match their taste profile. From there, you can tweak any filter — maybe nudge the strength up a notch or expand the price range — to find something new that still fits what they like.
This is especially powerful for:
- New employees who don’t know the regulars yet. The data does the talking.
- Upselling — find a premium cigar in the same profile as what they usually buy.
- Introducing variety — a customer who always buys the same thing might love something similar they’ve never tried.
Click Clear Account to reset everything and start fresh, or Set Account again to switch to a different customer.
Launching the Cigar Finder #
There are two ways to open it:
- From any customer’s Account Favorites — click the Cigar Finder button under their Cigar Profile. It opens with that customer’s preferences already loaded.
- From the main menu — open it blank, then optionally set an account from inside the tool.
Either way, you get the same full-featured finder. The difference is just whether it starts with filters pre-filled or wide open.
Tips #
Start broad, then narrow. If you set too many filters at once, you might get zero results. Start with strength and price, then add origins if needed.
The dots tell the story. In the results table, the Strength column shows filled circles — one dot for Mild, five for Full. You can scan a long list of results and immediately spot the strength distribution without reading every label.
Click any result for details. Selecting a cigar in the table shows a detail card on the right with all its attributes — brand line, shape, wrapper/binder/filler origins, available SKUs with pricing, and more.
Reset is your friend. If you’ve filtered yourself into a corner, the Reset link at the top of the filters clears everything back to the full catalog.
